Choosing a repairer

Today’s modern cars are so complex that only trained and accredited mechanics really know how to diagnose and repair a vehicle.

Choosing an independent garage over a main dealer should save you time and money and provide a fast, efficient, hassle free and friendly service.

But, you should not be afraid to ask questions and any reputable garage will be pleased that you’re showing an interest.

R2C Choosing a repairer

Before booking in your vehicle, ask the garage:

What training qualifications have technicians achieved?

ATA Technician Training is an industry standard. If not, equivalent NVQs and accreditation will suffice so long as proven by appropriate certificates.

Do you fit OE quality parts and can prove this?

Garages will have access to information and material from their suppliers that reaffirm to you the quality of parts they fit to your vehicle. Please insist on it.

Can you keep me informed of the cost at every stage of the repair process?

Nobody likes nasty surprises and, when servicing and MoTs takes place, garages should keep motorists updated with all developments and work carried out to your vehicle, with your permission. Please also ask for an approximate cost of a service or repair before this is carried out.

Franchised dealer? Independent garage? Your choice can not invalidate your warranty. It's your choice.
